Epilepsy is a common chronic neurological disorder characterized by recurrent unprovoked seizures, is a chronic disorder involves alterations in the voltage-dependent ion channels, reduction in inhibitory. The present study was to investigate the preliminary phytochemical screening and anti-epileptic activity of ethanolic extracts of root and stem bark of Ailanthus excelsa belonging to family Simaroubaceae. The maximal electroshock seizure (MES) models were used for assessing the antiepileptic effects in rats, were standard drug is phenytoin. The plant root and stem barks were extracted with ethanol and perform the phtochemical screening, glycosides, saponins, flavonoids etc. were presented. The ethanolic root bark extract high dose (500 mg/kg) produce a significant antiepileptic activity compare with the other extracts against MES induce seizures.
